Chapter 19 - Padlocked

The conversation that day left the daughter livid. She hadn't changed her stance on severing the relationship with the man. It was what she needed to do to keep her sanity. This man had put her through so much and she was done. Never again was she going to allow him to call her a liar. She had absolutely no reason to lie about anything.

The daughter's request for space fell on deaf ears because the husband continued to call and show up at her house uninvited. When he got no response he'd turned to trying to get through to the daughter's husband. He complained about how the daughter was acting and he’d throw some tears in for good measure and then ask her husband for favors.

The husband talked to the oldest daughter and would tell her he didn't know what was going on with her sister and that someone needed to talk to her. He'd say she was being unreasonable and disappointing their mother. Hearing the husband always talking down on her sister she too explained how time was needed. She once again asked if they could get mementos from their mother. They had all yet to get anything from him of their mothers. He’d continuously say he had items from their mother, but every single time he came around he'd say he always forgot them. For some reason he refused to give them anything of their mothers. They couldn't understand why.

After being asked yet again for something of her mothers the oldest daughter was given a few items that she decided to split with her sister, since her younger sister wasn't on speaking terms with the husband there was no way he would give her anything. The sad thing was that the items that she was given were things they had never seen their mother with. He'd given her things that looked to be scraps of old gold, things that they weren't even sure belonged to their mother. Nothing was given that just by looking at it would make them think of their mother or would bring them good memories. Those were the things they wanted. It was as if he had just given her things to shut her up. To this day he has yet to give anything of the mothers to her children. Clothing and figurines were what was asked for, not things of extreme value, those weren’t the things that were important to her children.

The husband's behavior continued to get worse. He would text the daughter's husband and even though they weren't speaking he'd ask for favors, he’d say that he knew someone was going into his yard and he needed to do something to keep them out. That "someone" he was talking about were both daughters. He believed that they were trying to get in while he was gone. He wanted to do something to keep them out because he knew they both had keys to the house. Their mom had given them both keys to be able to let themselves in whenever they wanted. He obviously didn’t want that anymore.

No one was going into his yard, and honestly no one wanted to go into that house anymore. He’d made it the last place anyone wanted to be.

He, a second time contacted the daughter's husband, and asked if he could go to the store and get him some cameras and install them for him around his house because he knew someone was trying to get into his house. It was at that point the daughters were convinced that he was talking about them, who else would he think was trying to get into his yard and house. If there were a true threat why wouldn’t he just call the police? The daughter did not let her husband put up cameras, he’d have to do that himself.

To prove to the stepdad that they did not want to go into his house they gave back their sets of keys and thought that would be the end of his trying to keep them out. That wasn't the case. The next thing to show up was a big padlock on the gate. Seeing the lock appear to once again reinforce that they were not allowed in their mother's house was like a slap in the face. Having to see the lock every single day hurt like you wouldn’t believe. The stepdad had gotten what he wanted, he’d yet again hurt his wife’s children in a way that no one else could.

His paranoia was getting the best of him. He was single highhandedly alienating himself from the rest of the family. At the time the brother and oldest daughter were still on speaking terms with him. Not one time had the youngest daughter tried to get her brother or sister to stop talking to the husband. She knew they were their own persons and honestly she knew that in time they would all come to the same conclusion she had. The husband was not a good person and it was only a matter of time before others saw exactly who he truly was.
